This book speaks volumes for all teens who struggle with gender identity, especially if their family is like George's. She lives a secret life that she dreams of making a reality if she can secure the part of Charlotte in the school play. She feels that if her mother sees her in the play, she might respect her feelings and identity as a female. She may not have been born as a female, but her mother has difficulty accepting that she does not identify as a male. This story about a transgendered teen will give young adults a sense of understanding and comfort if they are also facing the same challenges or simply want to understand. This book is unique and important for today's society and the stereotypes being thrown around the LGBTQ community.
